Install
Put the app on an iPhone or iPad (Safari)
- Open app.nexustabletopgames.com in Safari and sign in.
- Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add. The Nexus icon now appears on your home screen.
Open the app from the new icon, not from Safari. On iPhone, notifications only work when you open the app from the icon.
Put the app on an iPhone or iPad (Chrome)
- Open app.nexustabletopgames.com in Chrome and sign in.
- Tap the Share icon next to the address bar at the top.
- Tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
If you do not see it, use Safari instead. Apple only lets some browsers add apps.
Put the app on an Android phone
- Open app.nexustabletopgames.com in Chrome and sign in.
- Tap the three dots in the top right.
- Tap Install app (or Add to Home screen), then Install.
You may also see a purple Install button at the top of our home page. Tap it. On Samsung Internet, tap the menu (three lines), then Add page to, then Home screen.
Turn on notifications
- Tap Allow when the app asks about notifications.
- On iPhone you have to add the app to your home screen first, then open it from the icon. Notifications do not work from Safari itself.
- If you tapped "Don't allow" by mistake: on iPhone go to Settings, Notifications, Nexus. On Android press and hold the app icon, tap App info, Notifications, and turn them on.
Messages and groups
Where are my messages?
- Tap Menu, then Messages. It shows group invitations, your groups, and your private messages with friends.
- A red number on the menu means you have unread messages or a group invitation.
- Messages, groups and voice calls are for VIP members, staff, managers and owners. Not a VIP yet? Ask us in store or join online.
Make a group and invite people (VIP members and team)
- Pick a nickname first on My account if you have not yet. Groups only show nicknames.
- Tap Menu, Messages, New group.
- Type a group name, then search a nickname and tap Add for each person (up to 12 people in total). Only VIP members and our team show up in the search.
- Tap Create group. Each person gets an invitation and has to accept before they can see the group.
Accept or decline a group invitation
- Open Messages. Invitations are at the top.
- Tap Join to get in, or Decline to say no.
Nobody can put you in a group without your OK.
Add someone to a group you are in
- Open the group and tap People.
- Search the nickname under "Invite someone by nickname" and tap Invite.
Only people already in the group can invite someone. The person has to accept first, so groups stay private.
Leave a group
- Open the group.
- At the bottom tap Leave group, then confirm.
The person who made the group can also remove people and close the group for everyone.
Who can read my group, and how to report someone
- Only people in the group can read it. Managers and owners can also open any group to keep everyone safe, and each time they do it is recorded.
- Tap Report under any message that is not okay. The team gets a notice right away.
- You can delete your own messages with Delete.
Read the full rules in our Terms and Conditions.
Who can use groups and voice calls?
- Groups, private messages and voice calls are for VIP members, staff, managers and owners.
- Regular members see a locked screen with a link to become a VIP. If your VIP membership ends, you lose access.
- Groups are invite-only, so people only get in if someone already in the group invites them and they accept.
Voice calls
Start or join a voice call
- Open a group from Messages.
- Find the Voice call box and tap Start call (or Join call if someone is already on).
- Tap Allow when your phone asks to use the microphone.
- Use Mute and Leave call any time. A green dot shows who is talking.
Voice calls are only for VIP members, staff, managers and owners. They work inside a group (only people in that group can join) and in private messages with a friend. Calls are not recorded.
Mic not working on iPhone or iPad
- Tap Leave call, then Start call again, and tap Allow when asked about the microphone.
- If it never asks: in Safari tap the aA icon in the address bar, then Website Settings, Microphone, Allow.
- Still stuck: open Settings, Safari, Microphone (on newer iPhones Settings, Apps, Safari, Microphone) and choose Ask or Allow.
- Using the home screen icon? Delete the icon, open the site in Safari, add it to your home screen again, and allow the mic when asked.
Also check that no other app is using the mic (a phone call, FaceTime or a recording), and that you are not muted in our app.
Mic not working on Android
- Tap the lock or settings icon next to the address bar, then Permissions, Microphone, Allow. Reload the page.
- Or open phone Settings, Apps, Chrome, Permissions, Microphone and choose Allow only while using the app.
- Installed the app to your home screen? Press and hold the icon, tap App info, Permissions, Microphone, Allow.
Close other apps that might be using the mic, such as recorders or video calls.
Mic not working on a computer
- Click the lock icon to the left of the web address, then set Microphone to Allow. Reload the page.
- On Windows check Settings, Privacy, Microphone lets browsers use it. On Mac check System Settings, Privacy and Security, Microphone.
- Make sure the right microphone is chosen in your browser or computer sound settings, and it is not muted.
I cannot hear anyone, or people cannot hear me
- Turn up your phone volume with the side buttons, and check that your Bluetooth device is the one you want.
- Tap Unmute if the button says Unmute. You may have muted yourself.
- Echo or squealing: use headphones, or have just one person on speaker in the same room.
- Choppy sound: move closer to your Wi-Fi, or leave and rejoin the call.
- Nothing at all: close the app fully, open it again and rejoin.
I cannot join the voice call
- "Voice calls are for VIP members": voice calls and groups are only for VIP members, staff, managers and owners.
- You need a nickname: add one on My account.
- "Group was closed": the person who made the group closed it.
- "Banned": a manager removed voice access. Ask us in store if you think it was a mistake.
- "Call is full": try again in a few minutes.
- "Not set up yet": tell us at the store, we will fix it.
Call a friend (private voice call)
- Open Menu, Messages (or the Friends page) and tap your friend.
- Find the Voice call box at the top and tap Start call.
- Your friend opens the same chat and taps Join call. Tap Allow if your phone asks about the microphone.
Only you and your friend can join. Private calls are not recorded and are only for VIP members, staff, managers and owners.
Is voice recorded? Who can listen?
- Voice calls are not recorded, and nobody can secretly listen in.
- Managers and owners can see who is on a group call. If they join, everyone sees them in the list. They can remove people and ban people from voice. They do not join private calls between friends, but they can ban someone from voice.
- Tap Report next to a person on the call if they break the rules.
Account
Set or change my nickname
- Open Menu, My account.
- Type a nickname and tap save. Other members only see your nickname, never your real name.
You can change it once every 5 days. Staff can flag nicknames that are not appropriate, and managers or owners can remove them.
Sign in with Face ID or fingerprint
- Sign in once with your password.
- Open My account and tap Turn on for this device under Face ID or fingerprint sign-in.
- Next time, tap the Face ID or fingerprint button on the sign-in page.
Your face or fingerprint stays on your phone. It is never sent to us.
I forgot my password
- On the sign-in page tap Forgot your password?.
- Enter your email. We send you a link.
- Open the link and choose a new password. Check your spam folder if it does not show up.
Friends and status
Show as online, busy or offline
- Open My account or the VIP lounge.
- Under My status pick Online, Busy or Appear offline.
Other VIP members see what you pick. Our team can always see when you are on the app.
Add a friend and send a private message
- Open the VIP lounge and look at Who's online. Tap Add friend next to a person, or search by nickname on the Friends page.
- When they accept, tap their name and write a message.
Friends and private messages are for VIP members. You can remove a friend or block someone from the chat screen.
